Elaine Borton, BS, MPH

Elaine’s involvement with VOC began in the late 1990s, building Washington Park’s perimeter trail as her public health career in community health promotion, specifically chronic disease prevention, began. Integrating degrees in business, marketing, and advertising and a Masters in Public Health, she worked with individuals, organizations, and policymakers at community, county, regional, state, national, and international levels to address health disparities via healthy eating and active living.

She held leadership positions with the Colorado Department of Public Health, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the City and County of Denver, the University of Colorado School of Public Health, and the professional association Society of Public Health Educators. As a Peace Corps and service volunteer with a Nicaragua-based non-profit, she’s worked with low socio-economic communities, encouraging and facilitating community participation in decision-making and self-determination.

Ever an avid outdoors woman, Elaine’s “bagged” fourteen Colorado’s 14’ers, loves hiking, camping, backpacking, and snowshoeing. As a homeowner, she enjoys DIY projects, even applying skills learned from VOC projects to her own landscape and garden. Since the pandemic and retiring 2021, being an active volunteer with VOC has brought new meaning, purpose and connectedness.
