ART EXHIBITS FOR GOOD

BUY COLORADO ART, SUPPORT COLORADO.

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) has supported Colorado artists for several decades by providing free exhibit space in our Denver offices located at the historic Dos Chappell Bathhouse in Washington Park. In this supportive partnership, participating artists donate 25% of the proceeds to VOC, helping to fund critical statewide volunteer work.

Catie Michel is an artist, scientific illustrator, and muralist based in and originally from Denver. Her background in animal science, marine biology, and field research grounds her creative work in observation and exploration. In addition to volunteering as a seasonal bird bander, she teaches science illustration and incorporates experiential engagement with nature in her creative work. She works with organizations such as State Parks, botanical gardens, and conservation institutions to create visual media that hopefully inspires curiosity and care for the natural world.

Originally from Denver with both her parents having grown up on Old S Gaylord, Catie's childhood was spent circling Wash Park on bike/foot and frequenting Bonnie Brae Tavern and Ice Cream. Her love for the natural world began from exploring Denver's nature and the nearby Rocky Mountains. After spending a decade in California studying and teaching marine science, Catie is back in Denver working as a full-time artist and volunteer bird bander. This exhibit offers a look into the breadth of her work.

"I am guided by collaborative storytelling and our connection to the natural world. As a devoted naturalist, my process begins the moment I catch a rare glimpse into a vernal pool or hear the competing calls of owls at night.  Finding great community in shared curiosity, I examine themes of connection (human/more-than-human), access, advocacy, and the intersection of science and art. I explore what, in nature, is capturing our attention and what, in us, is looking back."

We invite you to meet the artist at the reception on April 18th from 5:30-9 pm. Our regular hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 9am-4pm. All sales, including payment and pick up, will be coordinated directly between the buyer and the artist. The show runs through June 19th.
