Hands-on volunteer experiences are one of the most powerful means of creating a caring and engaged public, and volunteer programs – when done right – have proven to be an effective, affordable, and immediately available workforce capable of tackling our most pressing outdoor stewardship needs.
That's why Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) has compiled our 35+ years of experience into the Stepping Up Stewardship Toolkit, a comprehensive set of resources designed to help groups start, enhance, or expand their own outdoor stewardship volunteer programs.
The Toolkit offers how-to guides, ready-to-use templates, and personal assistance in:
Developed in response to the ever-growing challenges associated with caring for our outdoor places, and the challenges stewardship organizations and public land managers have told us they face in their volunteer stewardship efforts, the Toolkit is intended to be a useful resource to help organizations address the unique and evolving needs of their natural spaces, organizational capacity, and volunteer base.
By sharing VOC’s proven practices, it is our goal to enable others – in Colorado and elsewhere – to take on more of this critical boots-on-the-ground work. With more of us actively caring for the outdoors, we will ensure the next generation will find these outdoor places at least as good – if not better – than what we inherited.
