Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) to Hold Open House Tuesday, March 16

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado invites the public to an open house to learn about more than 40 opportunities to volunteer outdoors throughout the state this Spring and Summer.  The open house will be March 16th, 4:30-7:30pm at the REI Flagship Store, located at 1416 Platte Street in Denver. Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) is a Colorado non-profit that helps citizens get involved in hands-on volunteer efforts to help protect, enhance, restore, and preserve Colorado’s natural resources.  Volunteer efforts range from planting trees, to constructing and maintaining trails, to removing invasive weeds, to restoring historic Forest Service buildings.  VOC has more than 40 outdoor volunteer projects planned in locations throughout the state this year, and volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate.  No experience is necessary.  Examples of efforts needing volunteers include:
  • Improving the Hanging Lake Trail in Glenwood Canyon, one of the most heavily used trails in Colorado,
  • Planting 175 shade trees in a Denver housing community,
  • Restoring several Colorado campgrounds that have been devastated by pine beetles,
  • Preserving historically significant Forest Service buildings for future generations to enjoy,
  • And dozens more.
Citizens can learn about all of VOC’s volunteer opportunities as well as how to get involved at the Open House on March 16th.  A complete list can also be found here.
